Hi, Steve here from generate business again. And I promised in the last blog I did, I would explain for Active Campaign users that have got multiple lists similar to what people have done in MailChimp. And how do you get them back into one. So your Active Campaign accounts a lot more manageable, just maybe with a main and a customer and the other ones, like I explained in last week’s video. So if you’ve got lots of lists, and pretend MailChimp is not there, it’s Active Campaign, but you’ve done it, what I call wrong, with lots of lists and how can you get back to one. So every one of these will be in Active Campaign, but the emails there once but you’ve got lots of lists, and then it’s hard to manage. So what we recommend you do, and you’ve got to be careful for the people that have opted out and are not getting emails from each of the previous lists.
So you need to work out who’s opted out and say, you’ve emailed a group of customers about a certain product you have. And instead of having them on a list, you need to add a tag. So what you do is you basically export, list A into a spreadsheet, you figure out what tag you want to call them. And there’s a tagging guide we can help you with is as a methodology, if you like for having tags, so that you understand what each tags about and why. So you can look at a tag that you had two years ago and think, why did I give people this tag. So that’s a separate issue. Again, we’ll cover that. So you can re import them back into your main list. So you’ve got list ABC, but we will have one called main.
So export the list to spreadsheet, figure out what the tag should be called for that group, then import them back and then you’re not importing the name again, because remember, the email is only once within an Active Campaign account. But what you’re doing is you’re going to import them with tags, Z, B, whatever you want to call it. And if you want the tagging guide talk to me and we can request one and we’ll send it out to you, import them back in with a different tag, and then delete that list. And then do it with less B and C and D. Now the other thing you’ve got to consider is are you using any of those lists for automations.
So if you’re using for an automation, you’ll have to change the directly automation and what triggers and a tag will trigger it instead of a list. So as you do each list and bring them back to a main list. Then you figure out who’s really on your list and what tags they’ve got. And then you can work forward from the day, you’ve got them all across, and you’ve got down to just a couple. And then you can email based on receipt and it’s all about segmentation. It’s a key thing with marketing automation and Active Campaign. It’s great for segmenting based on custom fields, you might want to put some of these might be that the people have purchased a certain product. So you might also put them in what business type they are, or what product they’ve bought might be in a custom field, we use custom fields extensively. One of our companies has got 78 custom fields. And you can do an email based on that I’ve got this product and this field, but they haven’t got anything at all on this field. And that’s based on your automation or your campaign.
So I hope that explains them. So remember, yeah, export it, tag it, bring it back, delete the list. Hope that helps you and have a good week.
